So I get up this morning and I'm working on my computer when a buddy of mine sends me a message on the computer asking if the fires are close to me. I answer back that they're still a ways off until he sends me a link to the report of the Goleta Fires!?! I think to myself... "way to be up on current events Mr. Mia!...."
I really couldn't see anything from where I live until later this afternoon when I stepped out the door to go to Costco. I'm glad I had my point and shoot camera in the car because there was a huge black cloud in the sky making the sun a wicked orange color. As I drove up the 101 to Costco you could see where the smoke was coming from! It looked like I was driving right into the fire!
Other than the ominous black cloud of smoke and the corn flake sized ash flying around in the air, can you see what else is scary about this picture? Look at those gas prices! haha
I was standing in the Costco parking lot looking at the hillside in this picture. It was kinda messed up shopping in Costco knowing that less than a mile away, the mountainside was on fire!?! Crazy huh?
You can see in this picture how fast the fire was moving. It had only been a couple hours and I went out for a drive to see the fires at night. The roads were closed all over the place but you can see how far down the mountainside the fires had come. Anyway... Mom and Dad, I'm fine and Santa Barbara isn't going to burn up tonight! Let's look at the positive side... If things don't get better, you just might be seeing me this weekend!
